I went to see the film on opening night and it was very good, exceeding my expectations
There’s a reason why 50% of the ratings posted on IMDB for this movie are one star, but if you look for user reviews, you won’t find a single review written explaining why (at the time of writing this). That’s because the politics of the election certainly came into play and destroyed any chance of a real rating.
It does an extremely good job of replicating the 70s and 80s and Stan plays the evolution of Donald Trump extremely well
Roy Cohn is also wonderfully played by Jeremy Strong, who even took the time to analyze Cohn’s mannerisms and how he spoke and incorporated that into his performance. The film is largely devoid of politics, you get hints of Cohn’s political past and a few politicians do make appearances, but for the most part the film is about how a young Donald Trump learned to navigate the complex upper echelons of society where politics, law and money all intermingled.
