The acting was good

The special effects were amazing. But there were SO many storylines. And none of them got enough time to be fully developed. Any one of the storylines, could have been the focus of the entire movie. Each storyline was rushed through and ended so quickly.

It’s really unfortunate

And they put too much focus on Lydia’s father. They honestly didn’t even have to address the fact that he wasn’t in the movie. The actor in real life is a sex offender, so why even discuss his character? It added nothing to the movie. There are also a lot of ghosts from part 1 that I felt should have been in this sequel-just use makeup and special effects like they did for Beetlejuice.

It was boring

Or recast them if you don’t want them to show that they’ve aged. Also, I almost walked out during the first hour. The movie didn’t get good until the second hour.

The story could be good

Pedro Almodovar’s first feature film in English. Featured on The 7PM Project: September 8, 2024 Episode (2024). But there is something completely wrong with the way the movies sound in terms of dialogues.

This makes the dialogues feel sour, sometimes reeking of clichés

It looks like someone took a decent movie and cut it badly to leave only the 'essentials' phrases. More often than not, the scenes don’t have the kind of recording that makes the climax possible and surprising. Instead, each scene seems to be cut only for its main message.

The right ingredients

What could have been powerful moments were simply skimmed over like a house of cards. The talents of the actresses do not save them. Sometimes it seemed that the script was written in another language and then translated.

I went to see the film on opening night and it was very good, exceeding my expectations

There’s a reason why 50% of the ratings posted on IMDB for this movie are one star, but if you look for user reviews, you won’t find a single review written explaining why (at the time of writing this). That’s because the politics of the election certainly came into play and destroyed any chance of a real rating.

It does an extremely good job of replicating the 70s and 80s and Stan plays the evolution of Donald Trump extremely well

Roy Cohn is also wonderfully played by Jeremy Strong, who even took the time to analyze Cohn’s mannerisms and how he spoke and incorporated that into his performance. The film is largely devoid of politics, you get hints of Cohn’s political past and a few politicians do make appearances, but for the most part the film is about how a young Donald Trump learned to navigate the complex upper echelons of society where politics, law and money all intermingled.

I have seen Joker yesterday at Venice an early ill-fated screening. Joker deserved to be presented at the Venice Film Festival, an event that regards cinema as a form of art, because this film is far from a blockbuster or a mere entertainer movie, as most films in the genre are.It focuses on the psyche of the main character, as it slowly crumbles under the pressure of society.

And thus, Joaquin Phoenix does a wonderful performance, earning almost surely a nomination at the oscars at least

It's a take on the Joker that differs from Ledger's, but I'd say that both are equally as good. The main difference might be that Ledger's joker is a rational that acts insane, while Phoenix's is insane to the root.Despite being a movie about a superhero villain, Joker is much superior to most of the movies of the genre (I'd exclude the Dark Knight Trilogy only, but Joker is easily as good as Nolan's movies, or at least very close). It is a small-scaled film, with a distinct style and cinematography (that cannot but be appreciated) and a set of very cinephile references that however do not feel too forced or overly oppressive.

This movie was so far probably the best of 2019 (at worst contested so far only by Dolor Y Gloria or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and that should be very convincing.. Art the Clown, Pennywise, and Killer Klowns are just a few of the comical creatures that send shivers down our spines.

Pedro Almodóvar’s first long-form feature in English. Presented on The 7PM Project: Episode from September 8, 2024 (2024). I was curious what Pedro Almodóvar would do differently in his first non-Spanish-language film, built around two of the most talented actors working today. The answer, unfortunately: is disappointing. There are many ways in which The Room Next Door lacks the elements that make Almodóvar’s work so distinctive – the spontaneity, the sense of improvisation, the comic timing, the effervescent ensemble work – but the film’s main flaw, as I see it, is that it is simply over the top, something that is rare in his previous work. The screenplay (which he is credited with writing) was adapted from a novel by Sigrid Nunez, which I haven’t read, but it sounds like huge chunks of dialogue were lifted word for word, and much of it is heavy and artificial, slowing and emptying the film, whereas Almodóvar’s work is usually characterized by terse dialogue and frantic forward movement, drawing the viewer into the world of the characters with little exposition – as a viewer you are simply there, hanging on for dear life and trying to understand the relationships and social context as you go, grasping for what you can. Even in films that deal with dark themes (think Pain and Glory or Bad Education ), the action and its backdrops unfold in a compelling way (even if they are actually crazy, if you think about it) that draws on our intuition and empathy and relies only lightly on extended expository narrative. Here, it’s the other way around: characters talk and explain endlessly, with a few awkward flashbacks to set the context. Little is left to our imagination. So while some of Almodóvar’s usual hallmarks are there, particularly in the exquisite use of saturated, cleverly coordinated colors and the good taste of many of the sets and costumes (here with many beautiful still lifes of flowers and fruit), they are reduced to props – they serve no purpose in telling the story and do not overwhelm the viewer by forcing them to accept the reality of his wildly artificial visual worlds in the way that most of his films do. And the computer-generated New York backdrops feel completely artificial and thus rendered nonsensical. Almodovar’s films certainly have plots, often quite convoluted ones (which is part of the fun), but they don’t feel plot-driven even when they are. “The Room Next Door,” on the other hand, is all about plot and is weaker for it. With talents like Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore (and the estimable John Turturro) behind the camera, there are bound to be, and are, great, often very moving moments – how could there not be, especially given the central premise of the plot and the way it both strengthens and strains a long, close friendship in its final days? But the verbosity of this script undermines Swinton in particular. Her incredible strength lies in her powerful, enigmatic presence and understatement. In my unscientific test, she says as much dialogue here as in at least three or four of her recent films (that I’ve seen) combined. Consider her stunning performance in another fairly recent film about the strained relationship between two women, “The Eternal Daughter” (2022), in which she plays, devastatingly, both an aging mother and her middle-aged daughter.
