The director of the previous two films, Paul King, has decided not to direct this installment
Story
Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who is now residing at the Retired Bears Home. With the Brown family in tow, an exciting adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey. However, he pitched the idea for this third film and was involved as an executive producer.
I love Paddington 1 and 2
Featured in Graham Norton i gosti: Billy Crystal/Emily Mortimer/Hugh Bonneville/Pharrell Williams/Michael Kiwanuka (2024). I always knew that with a different director, a different setting and story and all that, the third film in the franchise would be unique. This film had three problems for me.
The first is a mediocre script
I failed to connect with the film, and a poor script was the reason for this. The charm of the franchise, which was always notable and used in the first two, is irrelevant. And because of the feel good feeling that is not felt, the lack of charm, it kills the movie completely.
The second movie was the best, from Hugh Grant’s excellent performance, to the good foreshadowing and character development, this movie is nowhere near those levels
The third problem is the lack of character development, the way the characters were developed in the first and second movie is brilliant and outstanding, and while it is hard to do that with this movie, it was nonetheless poor. Sally Hawkins is not in this movie, and it is a huge loss, although Emily Mortimer does her role well with what she has, she is sorely missed and could have made this movie better. This movie has some magnificent moments, from the iconic look to the plot twist, I would say it has its good moments, I am picking bad parts of this movie, however, it is decent.
A 79/10 from me
If you follow the franchise and have seen the first two, this one is different and unique, but good to watch. There are some beautiful sequences that will take your breath away.
