Story

After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot named Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island

To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island’s animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose. Lupita Nyong’o sits down with writer-director Chris Sanders to discuss notable credits and their time making The Wild Robot together. According to author Peter Brown, the inspiration for “The Wild Robot” came from a sketch he made of a robot in a tree. He then asked the question “What would an intelligent robot do in the wilderness?” When the fox enters the cabin, a moose near the door growls, but the sound effect used is a recording of a bear. Roz: [from the trailer] Sometimes in order to survive, you have to become more than what you were programmed to be.

Look, my expectations were already pretty high.

Seriously, seeing it is believing

This was one of my most anticipated movies of the year ever since I saw the first trailer and then stopped everyone from giving me spoilers. But still, I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but this might be the best animated movie in DreamWorks history. This is truly one of the most visually beautiful animated movies ever made. It’s simply stunning from start to finish, filled with charm and unparalleled beauty that fills the screen with color and life. It really is like it’s a Studio Ghibli animation made from Monet’s paintings, and there are times when it’s even hard to process everything they have to show you.

But I don’t see why anyone would do that because it executes everything it wants to do in an exquisite and irresistible way

It’s certainly the most striking animation work I’ve seen since the first “Spider-Verse” and an evolution of what the studio did with “The Bad Guys” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” and if you doubt it, it’s even more beautiful than all of them. I can only imagine what a beauty like this must look like on an IMAX screen and maybe even in 3D, and I’ll definitely go after that experience when it’s officially released, but even in a regular XD theater it was a great spectacle that took my breath away in every frame. The story itself is pretty simple in concept and essence, and if there’s anything that might lead some people to criticize the movie, it would probably be because of that. I think people forget that even narratives as simple as this one also take a lot of effort to make work, and this movie makes it look easy because it doesn’t even need to do much and it wins you over immediately. It’s an extremely moving journey from start to finish and it’s filled with very beautiful themes and endearing, lovable characters that deserve to be remembered.

The humor and melodrama are balanced in just the right measure, although it’s much more focused on the dramatic side, but it’s one of those that simply warms your heart in a very cozy and touching way

The pace is calm and knows how to take its time with the necessary patience, the action is measured but electrifying when it happens, and the emotional moments hit hard but never with a forced appeal, but rather because they earn them through everything they’ve triumphantly built up to.
